AAFL TV to premiere Aviatrix web series

AAFL has licensed our Aviatrix web series to premiere on their AAFL TV YouTube channel.

From the Heart Productions, in partnership with writer-producer Ed Moy, have agreed to grant non-exclusive licensing rights for their upcoming documentary web series Aviatrix to Asian American Film Lab’s AAFLTV channel.

“I am excited that Aviatrix has granted a licensing right to AAFLTV because Aviatrix is just the kind of content AAFLTV embodies - bold, innovative, and, of course, deliciously diverse,” said AAFL President Jennifer Betit Yen. “Aviatrix tells the great stories of the great heroines of the past whose stories are too often silenced and ignored by the mainstream, to their detriment. This is more than just a great story; it is an inspiration, an ideal, a motivator - something to inspire us all.”

The Aviatrix documentary web series will premiere on AAFLTV channel, which was created in August 2013 to address an explosion of interest in diverse, original creative content along with corresponding rising level of dissatisfaction with mainstream programming for a lack of diversity and/or perpetuation of racial stereotypes.

“AAFL TV’s mission is a perfect match for our projects goals,” said Aviatrix writer-producer Ed Moy. “This is a great opportunity for us to share our story with AAFLTV’s audience.”

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY WEB SERIES

Aviatrix: The Katherine Sui Fun Cheung Story is a documentary web series exploring the life of a teenage Chinese immigrant who fell in love with flying and dreamed of becoming a pilot. After emigrating from China to the United States in the 1920s, she studied at USC Music School and LA Music Conservatory.

She later married her father’s business partner and had two children, but her love for flying remained unfulfilled until the 1930s when inspired by the likes of legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart, she defied racial and gender biases to earn her pilot's license and joined the Ninety-Nines, an all-women pilot's club.

She went onto became an adventurous daredevil stunt pilot barnstorming across the country at air shows and competing in air races with Earhart. Women in Aviation International inducted her into their Aviation Pioneer Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum enshrined her as America's first Asian aviatrix.

She is also one of only 51 people to have a bronze plaque embedded in the Flight Path Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, which recognizes milestones in aviation. However, her story has largely been forgotten in the annals of American history and her accomplishments remain unknown to the general public.
